A Booming Good Time

 

Miami - Celebrate Miami's heritage as a copper mining boomtown during the Boomtown Spree April 18th through 20th. The event includes a weekend of activities, contests and entertainment. The festivities kick off on Friday with a parade. Saturday's highlight is the Arizona State Mining Championship, which begins at 9 a.m. The event also features live entertainment, the Keystone Stair Climb, Copper Crawl (5k & 13K) as well as bed races and car shows.

Let’s Cruise

 

 

Payson Shine up your ride and attend the 15th Annual Beeline Cruise-In and Car Show April 25th – 27th. This year’s car show celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beeline Highway. Friday’s events include a “cruise” to the Mazatzal Casino beginning at 6 p.m. and a sock hop. The car show runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Event locations are at Rumsey Park and Main Street. Salsa Time

Maricopa – You are in for a hot time at the fourth annual Maricopa Salsa Festival Saturday, April 26th from noon to 6 p.m. at Pacana Park. The event not only includes a salsa competition but a guacamole and bean dip competition as well. Live music, kids’ zone, and a vendor village are also a part of the fun. Admission is free. A Festival of Music

 

Scottsdale The McDowell Mountain Music Festival returns to WestWorld April 25th through 26th. The festival features more than 13 bands during the two days. Gates open at noon on Friday; with the music starting at 1:30 p.m. Gates open at 10 a.m. Saturday; with the music starting at 11 a.m. Proceeds from the event benefit Golden Gate Community Center and the Phoenix Day Family & Child Learning Center. The Festival took off in April of 2004 as an endeavor to bring real music back to Arizona while getting the community together for a great cause: our children. Each year, the festival brings together 13 bands from a wide variety of genres over two days. This is the organization's gift to the community, giving this forum to move and groove and make it your own in the wide-open spaces against the backdrop of the McDowell Mountains.

 

If you have never been to a music festival, come to this one. Experience the spirit that is cultivated when people join together and have a good time. Bring your kids. Make some friends. There is camping, an RV park, silent auction/raffle, VIP area, marketplace, Kid's Zone and more..

Cruising Route 66

 

Arizona’s Route 66 – An Arizona tradition continues with the 21st Annual Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona’s Fun Run (Discover Your Routes), May 2nd – 4th from Seligman to Topock/Golden Shores. Registration begins Friday in Seligman. Touring is from Seligman to Kingman on Saturday and from Kingman to Topock/Golden Shores on Sunday. It’s a Party

 

Chandler – Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a celebration and Chihuahua races at Chandler’s Library Plaza (located at historic downtown Chandler) Saturday, May 3rd from noon to 8 p.m. The event also includes the crowning of the "king & queen Chihuahua”, live music, dancing, artists and vendors. Focus on Folk Music

 

Tucson – Calling all fans of folk music to the 2008 Tucson Folk Festival May 3rd – 4th at El Presidio Park in downtown Tucson. The event features musicians from the Southwest performing on five stages. Additionally, the festival includes workshops, a gospel sing-along and craft vendors. The event runs from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and  from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Time to Shop

 

Prescott – Escape to the mountains and enjoy the 22nd Annual Spring Arts & Crafts Festival May 10th – 11th at Prescott’s Courthouse Square. Sponsored by the Mountain Artists Guild, the festival will feature 160 of the Southwest’s best artists and crafters. Hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, Click Here.

 

 

 

Touring the Past

 

Jerome – You can catch a glimpse of the past during the 43rd Annual Home & Historic Building Tour slated for May 17th – 18th. You can visit seven historic homes and buildings throughout the town. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults; $6 for children. Children under the age of 2 admitted free. This year’s event will include a tour through the Phelps Dodge Administrative Office, which has been restored. High Flying Fun

 

Payson – For some high flying fun make plans to attend the Payson Aero Fair 2008 at the Payson Municipal Airport May 17th. This year’s theme is “Honoring Our Military”.  View vintage aircraft and classic car displays, visit craft vendors as well as take an airplane ride. Shopping in the Pines

 

Pine – Take in some fresh mountain air while attending the Pine-Strawberry Arts & Craft Show May 24th – 25th at the Pine Community Center. More than 85 vendors slated to attend. Hours are Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, Click Here.

 

 

Time for a Rendezvous

 

Williams – The 29th Annual Memorial Day Weekend Community Event (formerly known as Rendezvous Days) brings a weekend of family-friendly activities to Williams. Enjoy a Fun Zone, 4-H BBQ as well as a carnival May 24th – 26th. A rough-stock rodeo – the Ken McDaniel Memorial – Bares, Broncs and Bulls – will hold performances at 6 p.m. Saturday & Sunday at the Bob Dean Rodeo Grounds. A Birthday for Lowell Observatory  

Flagstaff – Help wish Lowell Observatory celebrate its founding in 1894 during the Memorial Day Star Fest slated for May 25th at the Lowell Observatory beginning at 5:30 p.m. The evening will feature numerous telescopes set up for viewing. Admission is $6. Click Here for more information.

 

 

Rodeo in the Mountains

Flagstaff – The 27th Annual Pine Country Pro Rodeo is slated for June 13th – 15th at Fort Tuthill County Park. A PRCA approved event. Performances are Friday at 7 p.m.; Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Admission ranges from $8 to $17. For more information, Click Here.

An Exhibit of Titanic Proportions

 

Phoenix“Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” comes to the Arizona Science Center through May 4th. The exhibit is a chronological journey of the “unsinkable” ship. Featuring more than 260 artifacts – including spoons, china, coins, jewelry, an original deck door and an iceberg. Admission ranges from $15 to $20. For more information and hours, Click Here.
