September also brings to us a special day of remembrance – September 11th, Patriot Day. It’s a solemn reminder about the cost of freedom. Thank you to all who are or who have served in our armed forces. You are greatly appreciated. Included in the newsletter are few suggestions about how you can say “thank you” to some of America’s heroes.

                                                                            Happy Fall!

Sincerely,

The Buzz Staff

Patriot Day 2010

In December of 2001, President George Bush signed into public law the observance of September 11th as Patriot Day. The day is intended to pay respect to the victims of that day, show our nation’s solidarity and show support for men and woman of the Armed Forces.

It is customary to fly the flag at half-staff as well as observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time of the first plane crash on September 11th.

But, there is something more that you can do other than observe. There are a number of organizations that need your help to bring the comforts of home to the men and women who are serving our country. Here are just a few of the organizations currently helping out.

Fighter Country Foundation – A non-profit organization supporting programs and services at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix. This organization supports Operation Thunderbox, Operation Warmheart, as well as provides support to service member’s families.

Any Soldier – With just one visit to this website, you can find out about a number of ways to reach out. Support someone by sending a letter or care package.

Packages from Home – A Phoenix-based, non-profit organization that provides military members with care and comfort packages.

Operation Homefront – This nationwide, non-profit organization provides emergency assistance for military troops, their families as well as wounded service personnel, who have returned home.
